Novo Nordisk is a leading global healthcare company headquartered in Bagsværd, Denmark, with roots dating back to 1923. Today, the organisation employs over 66,000 people across more than 170 countries. It is the world’s foremost providerof diabetes care, producing approximately half of the global insulin supply, and is atthe forefront of obesity treatment innovation through its GLP-1 based therapies such as Ozempic® and Wegovy®. Guided by the Novo Nordisk Way, a values based framework focused on patient centred innovation, long-term responsibility, and sustainable growth, the company recognised the need to reimagine its South African headquarters in line with its purpose and culture.

A detailed site selection review of Sandton office buildings was undertaken. The brief specified a Green Star-rated building, close to public amenities and transport networks, and offering high-quality on-site facilities such as a gym, restaurant, and restrooms. 90 Grayston met all criteria, with the 4thfloor (1,400m² of usable space) selected. To ensure employee needs drove the design, Discovery Workshops and Senior Management Questionnaires engaged over 100 employees. A form of Activity Based Working (ABW)model was introduced, representing a significant shift from the existing setup. In addition to this, A dedicated Change Manager was appointed to guide the transition, equip staff with tools, and ensure adoption.
