We all share the fire.
On its own, fire is merely an element, but in the context of our country, it’s the soul of our nations spirit. In South Africa, food, especially the braai, carries memory belonging, ritual and pride. In the fire we can find our origin and our bond.
The brief was to create a contemporary, authentic South African meat restaurant that would appeal to all ages and cultures. The South African braai is the soul of the brand, colours and shapes of the fire taken as levers for the interiors. The blue of an anthracite flame, the orange and yellow glows of a fire, inspired the colours of the brand and its interior. White and red napkins one would find at a braai inspired the wall tiles, embellished with brand quirks and humour. The furniture was inspired by casual garden chairs and steel drums; the seat of choice for most braais whether in a backyard or on the street.
